After starting to study the saxophone in Mulhouse (Alsace), Christian Wirth then followed with classes at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris where he won the first prize in the saxophone classes and first prize with honours at the chamber music competition. Then, he completed postgraduate studies in saxophone and chamber music at the CNSM.He is a member of the famous wind orchestra “Orchestre d’Harmonie de la Garde Républicaine”, and in 2013, he became the solo saxophonist of this orchestra.As a soloist, he has played with many orchestras including Philarmonic National of Ukrainia, National Orchestra of Taïwan, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, Solistes de Paris, Taïpei Chinese Orchestra, Ensemble Musique Nouvelle,... He has also performed on Radio-France and on French television channels Arte, Mezzo, France Television.Christian Wirth has performed under conductors Gustavo Dudamel, Pierre Boulez, Georges Prêtre, David Robertson, Jonathan Not, Michel Plasson, J.S. Béreau, Peter Ernst Lassen, with such prestigious orchestras as Ensemble Intercontemporain, the orchestra of Opera National de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse....Following numerous national and international prizes (first prize-winner of the International Adolphe Sax competition of Saint-Nom La Bretêche...) and eight first prizes at international chamber music competitions (Osaka, Bordeaux, Düsseldorf.....). He has recorded Luciano Berio’s Sequenza for saxophone under the artistic direction of the composer with Deusche Grammophon. This CD received the greatest awards from the international musical press.Passionate for chamber music, he create in 1993, the Habanera Saxophone Quartet which is now recognised as one of the leading saxophone quartet. He realized many arrangements and transcriptions for this ensemble.They have commissioned and been dedicated of many compositions, and recorded many Cd’s awarded for the label “Alpha Productions”. The CD Mysterious Morning, recorded for “Alpha Production”(Alpha 010), has been warmly received by reviewers and has earned them the golden award of Diapason magazine. They develloped collaboration with artists such as Michel Portal, Richard Galliano, David Krakauer, Marielle Nordmann, Dave Liebmann....As a pedagog, he give master-classes and saxophon clinics around the world (Japan, China, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, England, US, Ukrain, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Netherland, Slovenia, Taïwan, Singapoure, Hong-Kong ...), and he collabores in many summer’s saxophon academy, like the European University of Saxophone in Gap, Arosa Music Academy, and now teaches at the Conservatory of Mulhouse.He is a Selmer Artist, and he collaborates closely with Selmer-Paris, in the team of Research and Development.
Christian Wirth ist in Mulhouse (Frankreich) geboren, wo er auch seine ersten Erfahrungen am Saxophon macht. Als Absolvent und Doktorand des «Conservatoire Nationales Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris», gründete er 1993 das Habanera Saxophon-Quartett und spielt seitdem weltweit mit diesem Ensemble.
Nach zahlreichen internationalen Preisen, in Solo oder Quartett (erster Preisträger des Internationalen Adolphe Sax-Wettbewerbs von Saint-Nom La Bretêche und acht 1. Preise bei internationalen Kammermusikwettbewerben (Osaka, Bordeaux, Düsseldorf .....), hat er für das Label «Deutsche Grammophon» und «Alpha Productions» aufgenommen und spielt nun Saxophon (solo) beim Pariser Orchester de la Garde Républicaine.
Als anerkannter Professor gibt er Meisterkurse auf der ganzen Welt (Japan, China, Spanien, Deutschland, Schweiz, Ukraine, Polen, Ungarn, Österreich, Taïwan ...) und lehrt am Maurice Ravel Konservatorium in Mulhouse.
